About This Drug

Atenolol is a beta-blocker used to treat mild-to-moderate high blood pressure as well as angina and cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat). Treatment with this drug can be lifelong. Atenolol does not cure high blood pressure but merely keeps it under control.

Atenolol blocks certain nerve impulses, which slows the rate and contraction force of the heart and lowers blood pressure.
