About This Drug
Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor drug used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.
Like other ACE inhibitors, captopril prevents the conversion of the hormone angiotensin I to another hormone, angiotensin II. Prevention of this transformation allows the blood vessels to relax, which reduces blood pressure and relieves symptoms of heart failure.
