Getting Started
Crochet stitches vary widely in height. Slip stitches are very short, single crochet stitches are a bit taller, and double crochet stitches are about twice as tall as single crochet stitches. A half double crochet stitch is taller than a single crochet, but shorter than a double crochet. In general, the taller the stitch you use: 1) the faster your project will be finished, 2) the more "lacey" your project will be, and 3) the more loose and drapey your project will be. In addition, the height of the stitch being used determines how many chains you will need to work before starting the next row of stitches.
