With A, ch 35.
Row 1 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn (34 sc). Place a marker on this edge for dec side
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc2tog in first 2 sts, sc in each sc across, turn (33 sc).
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn (33 sc)
Row 4: Rep Row 2 (32 sc).
Rows 5–30: Rep Rows 3-4 (13 times) (19 sc at the end of Row 30). Fasten off.

Motif A-2 is the reverse shaping of Motif A-1.

Row 35: Ch 1, sc3tog in next 3 sts (1 sc). Fasten off.

Weave in ends. With right sides facing up, arrange motifs on a flat surface, following diagram (see figure 1) for placement. With wrong sides facing, join motifs together, using 2 strands of B held together as one. Single crochet motifs together in columns. Crochet the columns together in same manner, making 2 identical pieces, a back and a front, with the side motifs attached. Then crochet the front and the back of the poncho together across the sides in the same way.

With RS facing, join 2 strands of B on one side of neck edge.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working sc2tog at each joining seam. Sl st in first sc to join.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working sc2tog over each dec. Sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off.

With RS facing, join 2 strands of B on one side of bottom edge.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc at center front and back points. Sl st in first sc to join.
Rnd 2: Rep Rnd 1. Fasten off.
