Finishing the Bag
- Block the bag by pinning it out on a flat surface and using a warm iron to steam. Do not touch the iron to the thread. Block the handles to flatten.
Making the Lining
- Place the blocked bag on paper and trace around the outline to create a pattern. Cut out the pattern.
- Fold the lining fabric in half (18 x 17"/46 x 43cm) with right sides (RS) facing. Pin the paper pattern to the fabric, aligning the bottom edge of the pattern to the folded fabric edge.
- Cut lining fabric at least 1"/2.5cm beyond the paper pattern to create enough for a seam allowance around the edge of the bag. Stitch the sides of the lining together with a sewing machine or by hand, following along the side edges of the paper pattern. Trim any excess fabric to 1⁄2"/1cm for the seam allowance. Turn RS out and press seams and bottom fold well with an iron.
- Fold the lining over twice toward the wrong side (WS) of the fabric. Pin the lining in place so the raw cut edge of the fabric is hidden. Slip lining into the bag. If needed, adjust the lining hem to the height of the bag. Remove lining from the bag and press to flatten. Stitch around the top edge with a sewing machine or by hand to secure the folded hem.
- Lay the bag flat and press the sides with your hands. Pin each end of one handle to the top edge of the bag at the third arch in from both edges. Overlap the edge of bag approximately 1"/2.5cm over the end of the handle. Stitch the handle loops in place by hand. Repeat with the second handle.
- Slip lining into the bag. Tack the bottom corners of the lining to the bottom of the bag. Hand stitch the hemmed edge of the lining to the top edge of the crocheted bag.
