Getting Started
The special puff stitch used in this hat (described below) creates an interesting 3-D effect.

You Will Need
- 153yd/138m worsted weight merino wool yarn
- Hook, 6.5mm/K-10 1/2 or size needed to obtain gauge
- Yarn needle
Gauge
- First 3 rnds = 2-1⁄2" in diameter
- 12 sts = 4"
- 14 rows in sc = 4"
- Always take time to check your gauge.
Pattern Notes
- This hat is worked in spiraling rounds through rnd 16. Don’t join rounds. Use a stitch marker to indicate first stitch in round, move it up at beginning of each round.
Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (ch)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Puff stitch (puff st), (Yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw through st) 4 times in same st (9 loops on hook), yo, draw yarn through 9 loops on hook.
- Reverse single crochet (reverse sc): Working from left to right, insert hook in next st to the right, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook.
