Instructions
- Using the tracing paper and the fabric pen or pencil, transfer the pattern squarely onto the center of the fabric.
- Hoop the fabric, centering the design in the hoop.
- Begin by embroidering the outline of the design using Split Stitch.
- Proceed by embroidering the design inside the square, using the stitches and colors indicated in the pattern diagram.
- Block the finished embroidery.
- Using your pinking shears, trim all sides of the fabric, leaving about 1/4" (6 mm) outside of the Split Stitch outline.
- Lay your embroidery face down on a terrycloth towel on the ironing board. Peel the loose paper from one side of the fusible web, and place the sticky side squarely on the underside of your embroidery. Cover with a cloth and press firmly with a warm iron.
- Place the greeting card, front side up, on a hard surface that is covered with a cloth for protection, such as an ironing board. Slowly peel off the remaining sheet of paper from the fusible web on the back of your embroidery.
- Center your embroidery on the card front. Flip the card over so the embroidery is face down, and place a thin cloth (such as a bandana) over the card. Press evenly with a warm iron for about five to 10 seconds, or until the embroidery is adhered to the card. Work quickly so that you do not scorch your embroidery or the card.
Variation Idea
After blocking your finished embroidery, trim all sides of the fabric with fabric scissors, leaving about 1/4" (6 mm) outside of the Split Stitch outline. Then, gently pull the free threads, one at a time, until you have a nice fray on all four sides. Continue with step 7 above to create the greeting card.
