Instructions
- To make the circular patterns, start with the four round objects you’ve assembled; for example, you can use cups, small cans, or pill bottles. Use the pencil to draw around each of the objects on the scrap paper, and then cut out the circles.
- Pin the four patterns onto one of the pieces of colored felt and cut out the shapes. Repeat for the other three colors. You’ll have 16 felt circles in all.
- Lay the tote on a flat surface. Arrange the felt circles on the tote until you are pleased with the result. (Don’t feel obligated to use all 16 circles.) Use a straight pin to mark each spot where you’ve decided to place a circle.
- Thread the embroidery needle with the black floss, and knot the end. Embroider a blanket stitch edge around each circle. The top of the stitch will range from about 1/2" (1.3 cm) from the edge of the larger circles to 1/4" (6 mm) from the edge of the smaller ones.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and apply the iron-on adhesive to the backside of each circle (i.e., the side with the knot). Next apply each circle to the tote. If necessary, reinforce any loose spots with fabric glue. Let dry.
- With the black floss, stitch a sequin in a matching color to the center of each circle, making sure that the knots are on the inside of the tote. Apply a dab of fabric glue to each knot to keep it from unraveling. Allow to completely dry before handling.
