Important Precautions
- Tell your health-care practitioner if you are sensitive or allergic to eplerenone or to any other drugs.
- Do not take eplerenone if you have any of the following: high levels of potassium in your blood, type II diabetes with protein in your urine, or kidney disease. Use of eplerenone is also not recommended if you are using a salt substitute or taking a potassium supplement or a potassium-sparing diuretic.
- If you have liver disease, talk to your health-care practitioner before taking eplerenone. You may need special dosing or to be monitored during treatment.
Pregnant Women
No adequate studies of the effects of eplerenone on pregnant or nursing women have been done. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, talk to your health-care practitioner. Eplerenone should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
If you are breastfeeding, your health-care practitioner may advise you to stop while you use eplerenone, as this drug may appear in breast milk.
Seniors
No special instructions are needed for seniors.
