About This Drug
Propoxyphene is an analgesic prescribed to relieve mild-to-moderate pain. It is considered to be as effective as aspirin in this regard and about half as effective as codeine. There are two forms of propoxyphene: propoxyphene hydrochloride and propoxyphene napsylate.
This drug is a chemical derivative of the narcotic pain reliever methadone. It is more effective when combined with aspirin or acetaminophen.
