About This Drug
Rivastigmine tartrate is used to treat mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease. This drug can improve symptoms such as thinking ability. However, it cannot cure Alzheimer’s disease nor prevent the disease from growing worse. It is also indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia associated with Parkinson’s disease. You may need to take rivastigmine for up to 12 weeks in order to experience its full benefits.
Changes in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease include a shortage of acetylcholine (ACh), a chemical that helps the brain function properly. Rivastigmine slows the breakdown of ACh.
